The job
A three-panel canvas triptych destined for a two-story stairwell wall, plus a vintage sled on heavy knock-down texture — both places where a mistake means patching and repainting. We laid the whole thing out with a cross-line laser first, picked anchors matched to the wall type, and only then put a bit through drywall.

Step 1
Plan the layout
Measured the wall, established center and set panel spacing on paper before anything went up the ladder.
Step 2
Set the cross-line laser
Projected level and plumb lines across the wall so every hanger references the same datum, not a tape measure held at arm's length.
Step 3
Locate studs and choose anchors
Scanned for studs and blocking, then selected toggle or heavy-duty anchors where framing wasn't available behind the hanger point.
Step 4
Hang and space the panels
Set each canvas panel to the laser line with consistent gaps, adjusting the hardware rather than the hole.
Step 5
Mount the sled and verify
Anchored the sled flush to the textured wall, re-checked every piece for level and wiped down the layout marks.
