Stacked Stone Veneer Wainscot

Stone veneer install plus a fresh coat above

Installed stacked stone veneer along the base of an exterior wall, then finished the wall above with fresh paint for a two-tone facade.

The job

The base of this exterior wall took every splash from the walkway and looked flat against the rest of the facade. We added a stacked stone veneer wainscot to give the wall a durable, textured base, then repainted the field above once the mortar had cured so the two-tone transition landed on a clean line.

Our recommendation

A mortared stone veneer wainscot set off a level starter board, with a deliberate cure window before the wall above was repainted.

The result

A level, tight-jointed stone wainscot with a clean transition line to the painted wall above.

Scope of work

What we did

Set a level starter board
Butter and set stacked stone panels
Cut and fit corner and end pieces
Paint the wall above once the veneer cured

Process

How we approached it

  1. Step 1

    Set a level starter

Snapped a level line and fastened a temporary starter board so the first course couldn't creep out of level across the run.

  2. Step 2

    Butter and set the panels

Mixed mortar and set stacked stone panels course by course, keeping joints tight and staggering the panel seams.

  3. Step 3

    Cut corners and end pieces

Cut and fit corner and termination pieces so no factory edge shows on an outside corner.

  4. Step 4

    Cure, then paint above

Let the mortar cure, cleaned the stone face, then cut and rolled the wall above to a crisp transition line.

For the homeowner

What this means for you

  • A durable, splash-resistant base that hides dirt instead of showing it

  • Real dimension and texture on a previously flat elevation

  • A clean, deliberate two-tone transition instead of a wandering paint line

Before we call it done

What we check on the way out

  • First course dead level across the full run

  • No factory-cut edges visible on corners

  • Tight, consistent joints with no mortar smears on the stone face
