The job

The homeowner wanted filtered drinking water at the existing kitchen faucet without surrendering the whole cabinet to equipment. We installed an Aquasana Claryum direct-connect unit: supply off and drained, cabinet cleared and protected, housing mounted high enough to swap cartridges without pulling the unit, then a full flush and leak test before the cabinet went back together.

The problem

A homeowner wanted filtered drinking water at the kitchen tap without losing the whole cabinet to bulky equipment.

Our recommendation

A direct-connect under-sink filter tied into the cold line, mounted with cartridge-change clearance planned in from the start.

The result

Filtered water at the existing faucet, a tidy cabinet with room to swap cartridges, and no drips at any connection.

Scope of work

What we did

Shut off and drain the cold supply line
Clear the cabinet and protect the base
Mount the filter housing with clearance for changes
Tie into the cold line with the direct-connect fittings
Flush the cartridge and leak-test every joint

Process

How we approached it

  1. Step 1

    Shut off and drain

Closed the cold supply stop and drained the line so the cabinet stays dry when the fittings come apart.

  2. Step 2

    Clear and protect the cabinet

Emptied the cabinet and put down protection under the work area.

  3. Step 3

    Mount the housing

Fastened the filter housing to the cabinet wall with enough clearance below to drop cartridges out at change time.

  4. Step 4

    Tie into the cold line

Connected the direct-connect fittings to the cold supply, keeping the tubing runs gentle with no kinks.

  5. Step 5

    Flush and leak-test

Flushed the new cartridge per spec, then pressurized and checked every joint dry before reloading the cabinet.

For the homeowner

What this means for you

  • Filtered water straight from the faucet you already use

  • Cartridge changes you can do yourself without tools or contortion

  • A cabinet that's still usable for storage

Before we call it done

What we check on the way out

  • Every joint dry after a full-pressure hold

  • Cartridge clearance verified by cycling a change before we leave
